Cottey Seaboard Suite
Hello DE Chapter Presidents, Treasurers, and Cottey Chairs,
The Delaware Cottey Committee conducted virtual training about Cottey College to representatives from your chapters on November 21st. As part of the training, we announced a revised program to support Seaboard Suite at Cottey College, which has been approved by the State Board. Here are the highlights of the program:
Seaboard Suite is sponsored by 7 States and 1 District: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The Suite normally houses 10 students in six bedrooms. This year there are 5 students staying in the Suite.
The previous schedule established for Seaboard Suite care packages was not being followed by the States and District for various reasons. The current State Vice Presidents met by Zoom with the Cottey Director of Development and created the following program:
-
A monthly schedule was created so that each state was assigned a specific month between September and April.
-
Delaware has been assigned the month of October.
-
-
Care packages will be coordinated by the DE State Cottey Committee, using annual donations from our chapters.
-
Each chapter is asked to donate $25 to the State Board annually – to be used by the State Cottey Committee for the care package.
-
Each chapter should vote on this expense, as is normally done for any project donation.
-
Kindly send your Seaboard donation to the State Treasurer using the Project Donation Form. Mark “Other” and write in “Cottey Seaboard Suite Care Package”.
-
-
The Cottey Committee will create a care package, which will include gift cards and/or Cottey Cash (can be used in the Book Store, Dining Room, Chellie Club snack bar and Airport Shuttle) and any other appropriate items.
Additional information about the Seaboard Suite from the meeting of State Vice Presidents included:
-
The Seaboard Endowment Fund totaled $50,583.42 as of June 30, 2020.
-
The Spendable Account (from the interest of the Endowment Fund) totals $31,156.00. This money is used for any needed renovations to the Suite. The common area was refurbished in 2015 and the kitchen cabinets and flooring were replaced in 2020. Cottey performs an annual renovation assessment of the suites.
-
The Seaboard States & District do not need to take any financial action currently, since the Seaboard Endowment Fund is healthy and continues to be self-sustaining.
The State Vice Presidents have agreed to meet annually in the summer, with each State VP taking the lead of this committee on a rotating basis. The Cottey Director of Development agreed to send the Vice Presidents an annual Endowment Fund update, which will be reviewed at the annual meeting of VPs.
Thank you for supporting Delaware’s participation in the Seaboard Suite care package program. Please send your donations by March, 2021 if possible.
We are excited to share our P.E.O. loving concern with the Cottey students in Seaboard Suite!
